WHY IS GOD SO MORBIDLY VIOLENT IN THE OLD TESTAMENT?

BECAUSE HE IS FIGHTING FOR EACH ONE OF US!

Genesis 3:15

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

Isaiah 9:6

6. For to us a child is born, to us, a Son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

Since the fall of man that came through the deception of the serpent, and the disobedience of man against God, God promised Adam and Eve that out of the seed of Eve one would be born that would crush the head of the serpent by ending the power and dominion of darkness and break the curse of death that has come upon man and all of creation. This pure undefiled seed that would be born was the only hope of redemption therefore, since that day in the garden when the serpent heard the promise that God had made unto Adam and Eve he tried everything in his power to prevent that pure undefiled seed from being born. God’s violence that we read about in the Old Testament was Him doing everything in His power to prevent the bloodline in which Jesus was to be born to be defiled.

Jeremiah 51:45

“Come out of her, my people! Run for your lives! Run from the fierce anger of the LORD.”

His instruction unto Israel that we read about in scripture to kill off all of their enemies even the woman and the children at times of war, His harsh judgment against Israel when they fell into paganism, His direct instruction that they should separate themselves from those that were enemies of God and come out from among them, all these things was God protecting the seed that would be born, the lamb that would take away the sin of the world. It was God’s love revealed, His desire, His passion to see mankind redeemed from the power and dominion of darkness, and the curse of death. His wrath was not against mankind but against the seed of the serpent, the enemies of God that would come against the seed that would be born of the woman. Jesus was the only hope of mankind, the only one able to save us from a life that ultimately would end in destruction and death, therefore, God in His mercy would make sure that Jesus would be born so that mankind could be saved.

So God who knows all things, and knows the end from the beginning, God who is the only one who has the power to save, God who came up with a full-proof plan that would save mankind did everything possible, fighting on each of our behalf doing that which was necessary to save us, and still today He is doing what is necessary so that each of us can have the opportunity to choose life rather than death.

So, I would say to those who read the scriptures and see the violence of God revealed more than once, that what you are seeing is not a violent, spiteful, harsh God but rather what is revealed in the violence of God is God’s passion to see all of mankind saved. What is revealed is His uncontainable love toward each of us where He would do whatever it takes to see us saved. Did He not also allow His only Son to die a horrible death, a death which no man could bear because He loves us so much and does not want to see any of us perish? Rather than questioning and judging God because He seems violent let us see the true reason for His acts of violence and be thankful that He loves us so much that He would not allow anyone or anything to stand in His way to see us saved. God’s zeal against His enemies is what will accomplish our full redemption! AGAIN I SAY, REMEMBER THIS, GOD IS FIGHTING FOR EACH ONE OF US!
