Because of our sin, people often fear God. They feel He is always angry at them, always looking over the rim of heaven trying to catch them doing wrong. We thank God, that is the exact opposite of God's real heart towards us. God's heart towards us is manifest for all time in the covenant Jesus created with Him. David is called to be king.

David, as a shepherd, had time; lots of free, quiet time, which he filled with psalms and music. This was not by chance; this was not a coincidence. God is gracious, and full of mercy. Even though David committed two sins which under the Mosaic law demanded the death penalty, David knew that grace and mercy was (is) the nature of God; and he appealed to God's grace. David looked past the law and saw the coming Messiah . . . and . . . God forgave him based on the cross. Still, God has placed on the earth the "law of sowing and reaping" in the natural realm, and the spiritual realm (Galatians 6:7-9). Due to David's sin the violence of his sins of adultery and murder never left his family. Sin will bring death, sin will corrupt, that is why God desires we repent quickly and fully, to save us from the horror and hurt of sin.
