12 Weeks of Prayer Week 10 Day 5

Why Would Anyone Twist the Word of God?

By Justin N. Citro

Why would anyone twist the Word of God and do such a thing against the All-Powerful God of the Universe? One of the multiple reasons preachers and teachers will twist the Word of the Lord is because they think the Bible is too harsh; they also don't want to offend anyone with the full truth of the Gospel. The Bible gives us the good, the bad, the ugly and the worst. The Bible does not mix words. It is a confrontational book, and the words on the pages can be harsh. When ministers of the Gospel cut out phrases from the Word of God to fit their twisted theology, they are spiritually harming the Church, the sheep of God's pasture. To twist the Word of God is a sin in the eyes of God. The Word of God instructs us how to live a life of holiness and tells us everything we need to do in order to gain eternal life and to stay in right relationship with God. The Word of the Lord is confrontational and makes us decide what to do with what we have read in the Word: Either to obey God's Word or not. It teaches us how to maintain living righteously before the Lord. The Word of God teaches us that it is the duty of every man to fear God and obey His commandments. The Bible teaches us about the redeeming love of Christ Jesus.

There are those who will twist the Word for their own selfish gain. We must know and study the Word for ourselves that we may recognize the Truth from error when someone is twisting the Scriptures. The prophet Isaiah very clearly states in Isaiah 46:8, "The plant withers and the grass fades but the word of the Lord shall last forever!" The Word of God, His truth, never fades; it lasts forever.

In 1 Peter 1:25 KJV, it says, "But the word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you." This gives us hope that through the end of the age, the Word will stand no matter who may come along and try to destroy it! Keep the faith and cling to the truths told in the Word of God. Let us take delight in reading the Word of the Lord that we may not be deceived by those who would choose to distort the Word of the Almighty God. Heavenly Father, I thank You for preserving Your Word. Thank You for giving us instructions on how to live and what to do in order to gain eternal life. Father, help us to always speak the truth of Your Word. Lord, I ask that You help us to know truth from error. Grant us the discernment we need to know right from wrong. Give us the strength to stand for truth. May our spirit always yield and submit to Your ways. Help us to stand in faith and to stand upon the promises in Your Word. Help us to draw closer to You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
