12 Weeks of Prayer Week 11 Day 4

12 Weeks of Prayer Week 11 Day 4 The Dangers of False Preachers

By Justin N. Citro

"Beloved, Believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: Because MANY false prophets have gone out into this world."

1 John 4:1

In today's world the issue of false teachers is more common than we actually think. Some people of God are not what they seem, and with that said, we must watch out for these "Pastors" or leaders" because they are not shepherds of the Most High God. In fact, they are agents of the Devil! The Bible says in 1 John 4:1 (KJV), "Beloved, Believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: Because MANY false prophets have gone out into this world." Someone can be as sweet as sugar in speech and seem nice on the outside, but on the inside, they could be a ravenous wolf waiting to devour someone. This is why when we hear people speak a word of prophecy, it is crucial for us to test the spirit to know if what they spoke came from God or not. Testing the spirit of everyone around us in today's world will help us gain an understanding of people.

We shouldn't be surprised when false prophets arise to speak. When Christ was speaking about identifying a tree by the fruit that it produces, he was speaking of false prophets. In Matthew 7:15-20 KJV, this is what Christ said, "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." According to what Christ said in these verses, we can identify false prophets by their actions, the fruit they produce.

Please understand that there are prophets who do take their gift seriously. The true prophets know they are accountable before God for their every action and every word they speak. The true prophet of God lives what they teach and prophesy.

As believers, we are to be vigilant. We are to guard our hearts because out of it flows the wellsprings of life. In order for us to guard our hearts, we must use discernment to keep ourselves sharp and not dull for being dull is not a good thing to be. We must be able to discern. Every prophecy that we hear must be measured by the Bible or we will be lead astray. Brothers and sisters, let us ask God to fill us with wisdom and discernment so that we will know truth from error. Study the Word so you will know the Truth of God's Word. Let us remain steadfast in prayer that we may know the voice of the Lord and be lead of His Holy Spirit.

Heavenly Father, we humbly come before You asking You for Your guidance, that You would teach us Your truth and Your ways. Fill each of Your children with wisdom, insight, and discernment so we can know what is true and what is false. Lord, our hope and trust are in You for no one else compares to You, O God. Continue to be the God who goes before us and the God who guides us. Let Your presence be with us always. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
